HOW DOES A TIRFOR WINCH / WIRE ROPE PULLING MACHINE WORK?
The tirfor principle;
A tirfor, often called a tirfor winch or wire rope pulling machine, doesn't have wheels nor gears.
Two jaws alternately pull the wire rope and the load in the required direction, just like pulling on a rope with 2 hands.
The jaws on a tirfor are self clamping, providing immediate and gradual safety - the heavier the load, the tighter the jaws will clamp.
A release mechanism allows the wire rope to be inserted between the jaws.
Tirfors are safe and reliable, constant control of the load during lifting and lowering with accuracy to within 1 mm. When stationary the load is automatically distributed between the 2 jaws, they also have overload safety devices.
Tirfors can be used in any position, and there is no limit to the length of wire rope that can be used.
The capacity can also be increased using the sheave block technique, by a factor of 2,3 4 or more (see pic)
The figures given must be multiplied by the nominal capacity of the device, when calculating the working load limit, include a loss of around 4%, due to friction of the sheaves.
Next week we will discuss the different models in the range including the pneumatic tirfor and the hydraulic tirfor.
Over the next few weeks we will be listing details of three different types of ratchet lever hoists, ranging from250 k...
