ELECTRIC HOISTS, common facts

Electric hoists are powered devices used to lift lower and move heavy objects.

Electric hoists are available in a wide variety of models to suit different needs,  and can be used by most companies small and large and are often seen used in conjunction with cranes, a-frames and gantry systems.

An electric hoist works by attaching the load by a hook or other specifically designed attachment.

Many electric chain hoists rely on a clutch which slips at the preset torque, helping to prevent overload. On some other electric hoists the overload limits are operated by the chain mechanically engaging with a switch mechanism. Many newer models have automatic cut off switches, to allow for a quick power off in cases of emergency.

Electric hoists come in a variety of models, with varying safe working loads, heights of lift and falls of rope as well as single or dual speed and single or three phase power. We can supply chain hoists from 125kg to 10000kg and wire rope hoists from 1000kg to 40000kg.

Electric hoists are used in a huge variety of workplaces today, including construction, marine, dockyards, warehouses, car manufacturers, mechanics for lifting engines, and many industrial applications.

Electric hoists provide a cost efficient, fast and safe way of lifting and moving loads, by reducing the manpower needed for the job, (saving money)  reducing  the number of injuries to workers, as they do not have to lift heavy loads,(saving money from less time off from common back problems associated with heavy lifting, and accident claims) and providing a faster way to manoeuvre your loads (saving money by saving on time taken to do the job).

Lifting operations are considered to be high risk operations, did you know that the number of workplace accidents involving lifting equipment  accounted  for  20% of all fatal workplace injuries, and other  injuries and accidents are also very high, usually resulting from improper use of equipment of unsafe lifting operations, often including overloading, or defective componants such as gears, or often the chain.

Using electric hoists safely can dramatically reduce these figures. So therefore it is of the upmost importance to regularly inspect your electric hoists and chains or wire rope, and if in doubt never use until checked by a qualified engineer, and even more often, check your chain and have it repaired if necessary., All of these services we can offer you, by our skilled engineers with many years of experience.
