Which Lifting Equipment – Choosing Wisely

With the vast array of lifting equipment available, ampoule it can become a little confusing at times, order as to which will work best for you;  It is important to understand the essentials of each piece of equipment before purchasing to ensure it is appropriate for the operation you need it for.

As well as looking at the specifics of the piece of lifting equipment you think will work best for you, website like this there are some other very important factors to consider, some are more product specific than others, here we look at the most important things to consider to ensure you are choosing the best possible lifting equipment to suit your needs.

This is the top most priority; you must make sure that the maximum lifting capacity of the equipment is more than capable of lifting your load, for example, if you need to lift a load that weight around 250kg, then you should purchase equipment capable of lifting 500kg, this is to allow for errors in weight calculations, and to prevent overloading, which can be lethal. It also allows you to lift different loads of a wider variety of weights, so ask yourself!  Do you lift the same type/weight of load or does it vary? Always try to anticipate the heaviest load you are likely to lift and buy your equipment the next capacity rating above that, this will cover most aspects, and could save you money in the long run, as if you buy say a hoist with a 250kg capacity, then a few months later, find you need to lift a load of 500 kg, then you will have to buy another hoist.

Another important aspect to consider is whether you need a powered lifting device, such as an electric hoist, or a manual lifting device such as a chain block.  Sometimes power is not available in the location in which the lifting device is needed, or power could pose a danger, therefore you would need a manual lifting device. Manual lifting devices are commonly cheaper to purchase and have no running costs, yet a powered device enables the operation to be completed quicker and easier with little human effort.

Some types of lifting equipment can take up quite a bit of space, like a mobile gantry or a jib crane, so you will need to ensure there is enough space to operate it safely. You will also need to take note of the headroom you have available, as these devices can be high. In the case of a Jib crane, these will need to be mounted, and so you will need to ensure the structure to which it will be mounted is stable, and able to bear the weight of the crane and the loads to be lifted, no matter if it is wall or floor mounted.

Think about the amount of usage your equipment will have, if it will only be used occasionally then do you have a suitable place to store it out of the way?  If your lifting equipment is to be used on a frequent basis, of for heavy use, then purchase the best possible equipment you can afford to ensure longevity.

Successful and safe lifting procedures will depend on whether the appropriate equipment is used, and therefore careful consideration will be needed prior to purchase. Never try to cut corners, for example, by buying the smallest hoist possible if it is close to the maximum capacity for your load. If in doubt as to what would work best for you, ask a reputable lifting gear company for advice, this will ensure you get the right equipment for the job.
